Artist statement
I'm an artist mainly working with the photographic medium, examining the human perception of climate change. Besides an artist, I am a young person who is experiencing the effects of global warming - now and even more in the future. I have a strong urge to make meaningful work and to contribute to change with my projects by making people think and act.
Within the theme of climate change, I specifically expore how technology influences the way in which we deal with climate change. For example, in the project 'A Quiet Life', I investigated the inner duality of nuclear power in the French village of Chooz, where the local nuclear power plant is responsible for economic activity. I focus mainly on how we mentally deal with the problem and on our search for the potential solution scenarios.
Through photography, moving image, sound and text I want to provide the viewer with new perspectives about the climate debate. I focus on the new generation because they are the ones who are at the beginning in their lives, in a world that is rapidly changing. I hope to invite them to explore their own position within the climate debate and motivate them to make changes. I believe their intrinsic motivation is much more powerful than imposed rules or opinions. With my work, I hope to contribute to that intrinsic motivation. At the same time, my projects also help me to become more aware of my own position in the world. Through my work I grow and stay self-critical – as an artist and as a person.
